2:40 p.m. - PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- President-elect Barack Obama pledged quick work Tuesday on an economic recovery plan to include tax cuts and increased federal spending, and told the nation's governors he wants their advice in designing a package to help their hard-hit states.

12:05 a.m. - NEW ORLEANS — Edwin Edwards is hoping to get released from prison early, with the help of former President George H.W. Bush, according to the owner of a Winnfield Web site who visited Edwards at the Federal Detention Center at Oakdale for three hours Sunday.

Four more Southern University marching band students were arrested this afternoon for the alleged beating and hazing of two fellow freshman French horn band members.
