2:40 p.m. - PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- President-elect Barack Obama pledged quick work Tuesday on an economic recovery plan to include tax cuts and increased federal spending, and told the nation's governors he wants their advice in designing a package to help their hard-hit states.
12:05 a.m. - NEW ORLEANS — Edwin Edwards is hoping to get released from prison early, with the help of former President George H.W. Bush, according to the owner of a Winnfield Web site who visited Edwards at the Federal Detention Center at Oakdale for three hours Sunday.
Four more Southern University marching band students were arrested this afternoon for the alleged beating and hazing of two fellow freshman French horn band members.

VACHERIE — Gov. Bobby Jindal said Monday he intends to talk to President-elect Barack Obama about “freeing up federal dollars” from FEMA and other funding sources.
Jindal stopped in Vacherie to address a St. James Parish town hall-type meeting en route to Philadelphia, where he and 39 other governors are scheduled to meet with Obama.

Families move into homes that Pitt built
NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- It was a bittersweet moment for Brad Pitt, walking through the Lower 9th Ward neighborhood where families were preparing to spend their first holidays since Hurricane Katrina.
Those families are moving into the first six houses built through Pitt's Make It Right foundation. One home was already strewn with green garland, lights, wreaths and red bows.
