Randy Nelson Retiring As City Attorney

Longtime City Attorney Randy Nelson said Tuesday he plans to retire at the end of the year. He plans to spend more time with his family, including his wife, Carolyn, who has been ill. He also will retire from the law firm of Nelson, McMahan & Noblett, which currently provides legal services for the city. Attorneys in the firm serve as assistant city attorneys. State Attorney General Upholds Legality Of Traffic Cameras

The state attorney general's office has issued an opinion upholding the validity of traffic enforcement cameras. The opinion says the use of the cameras to catch speeders and those running red lights is not unconstitutional. It rejects arguments about alleged invasion of privacy and concerning the fact that the owner gets the ticket though another person may be driving the vehicle at the time. The opinion says police officers have to review the camera traffic enforcement to insure that a violation has occurred. It cannot ...
